ComputerWeekly: IT hardware

Sony Ericsson has long been known for quality mobile phones. They are also improving their reputation of listening to users’ concerns and feedback. When SE introduced the Xperia Arc S, the spotlight mobile phone of this post, they kept those paradigms alive.

We believe that the open-mindedness of Sony Ericsson is remarkable enough to specially mention here that although the Android smartphone comes with the Gingerbread OS, Sony Ericsson has chosen this model, along with two others, for early Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. Hopefully, other manufacturers will take the lesson to heart: Customers drive your business. Bring them into your product development and maximize your opportunity to build brand loyalty from the circuit board up.

They warn, though, that not all the ROMs are fully operational, but they strongly encourage those who want to help test and develop the upgrade process to voice their experiences and opinions on those SE-sponsored forums: They do read. They do pay attention, and they do respond, both on the boards and in development.

The other two mobile phones that are granted early updates are the Xperia Ray and the Xperia Neo V.

Anyway, on with our review of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S mobile phone….

Overview

Sleek, compact smartphone that combines a high-resolution screen with a cool camera package sets itself up for happy users, and for the most part, the SE Xperia Arc S succeeds.

If it only had a second, front camera and a better 3D-imaging system, this would be close to the top of our wish list. (It’s already there; it’d just be a notch higher.)
