New MacBook Pros will feature Nvidia graphics

With all of the rumors flying fast and furious in recent days, there’s little doubt that Apple plans to introduce a new MacBook Pro soon.

In fact, sources now confirm that the company will ditch AMD graphics processors in favor of Nvidia.

According to recent reports, Apple’s forthcoming MacBook Pros will make the switch from AMD GPUs in the current models, to Nvidia graphics to complement Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors.

The swap appears to be directly related to the high resolution Retina Display which is anticipated with the new models.

While a "trusted source" confirmed the Nvidia news, it’s unknown exactly which GPU Apple will be using.

MacBook Pro + Nvidia= The complete package

The most likely candidate appears to be the GeForce GT 650M, an upgrade from Nvidia’s 28nm GeForce GT 640M.

"Apple’s riding the wave of innovation by teaming up with top technology companies it has strong relationships with," remarks MacLife Managing Editor Florence Ion.

"The Mac may not be a gaming machine, but it’s primarily favored by professionals for its software and its technological longevity. Might as well pop in a Nvidia GeForce GT 640M GPU to complete the package."

ABC News also confirmed that Nvidia GPUs will be used in the next generation of Apple’s MacBook Pro. What’s more, rumors claim the notebook will be thinner and lighter than the previous generation and also feature USB 3.0, the first time Cupertino incorporated the faster version of USB.

Both announced and released last month, Samsung brought the Samsung C3312 Duos, also known as the Samsung Champ Deluxe Duos, into the retail limelight.

Let’s see what this mobile phone has to offer, shall we?

Overview

Using the word ‘compact’ for this feature phone might be off a bit. It’s not as tiny as a mobile phone watch, but it certainly isn’t a mini-tablet. For those who have smaller hands or don’t want even an average-sized mobile phone, the Champ Deluxe Duos just might fit the bill.

Its rounded corners makes this model fit very comfortably in the hand, and it’s certainly light enough to avoid strain while handling it.

For the screen size, the images on the screen are remarkably clear; Samsung has hit a good balance between smaller screens and resolution with the 143 pixels per square inch density and seats itself well into the hybrid area of a touchscreen-, candybar-formed clamshell without the flip or the segregated keyboard – a touchscreen feature phone.

Asus Windows 8 prototypes feature baked-in Kinect

We might all be flailing wildly at our laptops to open documents soon as at least two prototype Asus laptops exist that incorporate Microsoft Kinect sensors.

The Daily was lucky enough to snag some time with what a Microsoft insider confirmed were two official Microsoft prototypes running Windows 8.

The gesture control sensors sit where the webcam would normally be (in the centre of the panel above the screen), with what looked to The Daily like LEDs beneath the display.

The Daily Flail

Unfortunately the Murdoch-owned iPad newspaper didn’t manage to grab any pictures nor use the gesture control, but it does seem to confirm that we’ll see Kinect functionality baked into portable hardware at some point in the near future.

Kinect is already compatible with Windows, with the necessary hardware being released in February 2012 after developers were given access to the SDK late last year.

The motion-sensing peripherals have been a massive success for Microsoft on the Xbox 360, bagging well over 10 million sales and a T3 Gadget of the Year award to boot.

AMD’s new Bulldozer-based CPUs are just around the corner. AMD has said the release of Zambezi CPUs will happen in Q3, which means any time from now. The latest word on the street suggests October release though. We know quite a lot about these CPUs already but there is at least one thing we didn't know until now and it may end up being a big thing in server market. AMD’s John Fruehe has published an interesting blog post where he reveals that AMD’s upcoming server CPUs, Operons, will feature a user-configurable TDP.  Read on for our overview on Bulldozer, thoughts on configurable TDP, and summary of AMD's future plans.
